The 'working' volunteers were back at it in 2006. Finlay Morrison led a party
of volunteers on a week long 'vacation' at the light station and the results just
glow! Calling this week a vacation is a bit of a joke because while the
crew might be on vacation - they put the true meaning into the word "work"!
This week is set aside for major work to be done at the site - mostly
painting - as any lightkeeper would tell you, the place needs it every year.
Other big jobs are also handled at this time - in 2006 a new water system was
put in place - the gardens are all planted - repairs are made to walls and
windows - and in 2006 more work was done on the new Friends Visitor Centre that
we hope will be open in 2007.
This year the crew had to do double duty because the 2005 volunteer vacation
was cancelled. They worked very hard and the station looks marvelous. This could
not be done with these amazing people. Thank You!!!
The 2007 Volunteer Vacation at the
Flowerpot Island Light station is ready to go in June.
